Trips and Themes

Bing

We welcome you to Oxford with a formal dinner held in the Dining Hall of one of our three affiliate colleges. We also organise two excursions during the term to theatre performances or musical concerts. All of these are generously supported by the Bing Grant. At the end of the first week of the programme, we tale a two night excursion to parts of the British Isles you otherwise might not plan to visit. This gives us the opportunity not only to explore a new part of the UK together, but to establish our community for the new term. At the Oxford centre, we tie the Bing Trip into the academic programme. Each term we designate an academic theme connected to the location we have visited, and during the term we invite experts from Oxford University and beyond to discuss how that theme relates to their own research.

Cara Bowers

Each term we also have one excursion to a site of special architectural interest, generously supported by the Cara Bowers grant. In recent years, these have ranged from Stonehenge to Blenheim Palace.

All of these events - the Bing Dinner and Trip, our 'thematic' evening lectures, and the Cara Bowers excursion are regarded as part of the academic programme, and all students are required to attend.
