OSPOXFRD TBD: Public Memory Research Program Oxford Seminar
Instructor: Sydney Rose
The Oxford seminar component of the Public Memory program, like the Cape Town seminar component, is an intensive discussion-based class divided into two key themes that sees to ground students in the theoretical and practical debates currently faced by professionals and researchers working in and on museums in the UK. The first theme, The Universal Museum considers how the legacy of Enlightenment ideas and colonial hierarchies both influenced the shape of British museology. The second, ReImagination and Repair considers how museums have been rebuilt and transformed by generations of reinterpretation, scholarship, activism, and power.
